Population of approximately 9.2 million. Belarus has a declining population due to low birth rates and emigration.

The official languages are Belarusian and Russian, with Russian being the most widely spoken. Belarusian is more commonly used in cultural and historical contexts.

The capital and largest city is Minsk. Other major cities include Gomel, Brest, Vitebsk, Hrodna (Grodno), and Mogilev.

Humid continental climate, with cold, snowy winters and mild, humid summers. Winter temperatures can drop below -10C (14F), while summer temperatures range from 17-25C (63-77F).

Notable wildlife includes European bison (national animal), wolves, lynxes, elk, brown bears, and beavers. Belarus has large forested areas, including the Bia?owie?a Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses one of the last remaining populations of European bison.
