Population of approximately 13.7 million. Benin is a culturally diverse country with over 60 ethnic groups, the largest being the Fon, Yoruba, and Bariba.

The official language is French, but many indigenous languages such as Fon, Yoruba, and Bariba are widely spoken.

The capital is Porto-Novo, but the largest city and economic hub is Cotonou. Other major cities include Abomey, Parakou, and Djougou.

Benin is known as the birthplace of Vodun (Voodoo), which remains an important religion. The country has a rich history linked to the Dahomey Kingdom, with historical sites in Abomey. Traditional music and dance are important aspects of Beninese culture.

The West African CFA Franc (XOF) is the official currency, shared with several other West African nations. It is pegged to the Euro, and cash is preferred over credit cards in most areas.

Beninese cuisine is influenced by West African and French traditions. Staple foods include corn, yams, rice, and beans. Popular dishes include Pote (corn dough), Akpan (fermented maize drink), and Kuli-Kuli (peanut-based snack). Fresh seafood is common in coastal areas.

Tropical climate, with a humid coastal region and a drier, savanna-like climate in the north. The rainy season lasts from April to October, while the dry season runs from November to March.

Notable wildlife includes elephants, lions, cheetahs, hippos, buffalo, and antelope. The Pendjari National Park is one of the best places in West Africa to see large wildlife. The country is also home to numerous bird species and primates.
