Population of approximately 18 million. The majority of the population lives in the southern part of the country, as the north is largely desert.

The official languages are French and Arabic, but over 120 indigenous languages are spoken, including Sara in the south.

The capital and largest city is N'Djamena. Other major cities include Moundou, Abeche, and Sarh.

Diverse cultural influences from Arab, Saharan, and Sub-Saharan African traditions. Nomadic lifestyles remain common in the north, while southern regions are more agricultural. Traditional drumming and storytelling are key cultural aspects.

Traditional meals feature millet, sorghum, and meats. Popular dishes: Boule (millet porridge), Daraba (okra and peanut stew), and Jarret de boeuf (slow-cooked beef stew).

Desert and semi-arid in the north, transitioning to a tropical savanna in the south. The north is extremely hot with little rainfall, while the south experiences a rainy season (May-October).

Home to lions, elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles. The Zakouma National Park is vital for wildlife conservation.

Cultural Considerations

Respect for elders: Elders are revered in Chad, and it's customary to greet them first, especially in rural communities.
Modest dress: Modesty is highly valued, especially in rural areas. Covering shoulders and knees is respectful.
Avoid public displays of affection: Public displays of affection are generally not acceptable.
Respect religious customs: Chad is predominantly Muslim, and it�s important to be respectful of Islamic practices, particularly during Ramadan.
