Population of approximately 1.2 million. The island is divided, with the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the north.

The official languages are Greek and Turkish. English is widely spoken due to British colonial history.

The capital is Nicosia, which is divided between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. Other major cities include Limassol (a port city), Larnaca, and Paphos (a historic site and tourist hub).

Mediterranean climate. Hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. The Troodos Mountains are cooler and receive snowfall in winter.

Wildlife includes Cyprus mouflon (wild sheep), loggerhead turtles, monk seals, and flamingos. The Troodos Mountains host unique bird species.
