Population of approximately 1.4 million.

Official languages: Tetum and Portuguese. Indonesian and English are also widely used.

Capital: Dili (largest city, port city, and administrative center). Other major towns: Baucau (second-largest city, known for its colonial architecture), Maliana (agricultural hub), Suai (coastal town near the oil industry).

Timorese culture incorporates Austronesian and Portuguese influences. Weaving (tais textiles) is an important tradition, and the country has a strong oral storytelling culture. Catholicism is the dominant religion.

Traditional foods include ikan sabuko (grilled fish with tamarind sauce), batar daan (corn, pumpkin, and bean stew), tapai (fermented rice), and fried banana snacks.

Tropical climate, with a distinct wet season (November-April) and dry season (May-October). Coastal areas are hot and humid, while the highlands are cooler.

Notable wildlife includes Timor deer, saltwater crocodiles, endemic bird species, and diverse marine life including dolphins, sea turtles, and coral reef fish.
